Andria Zafirakou, a UK-born Greek and Cypriot arts and textiles teacher at Alperton Community School in northwest London, was named ‘Best Global Teacher 2018’ in March, winning the Varkey Foundation’s coveted prize.
She won among 30,000 candidates from 173 countries.
Livemedia got a chance for a chat with Andria at her school. She told us about how she feels two months on, what she would like to do now after winning the award and how she sees the future of arts at schools with her as an ambassador.
She also had a message about her fellow Greeks and the support she has felt from them.
